Book Rec: Fangirl

Fangirl takes place during Cath Avery's first year of college. Cath is obsessed with Simon Snow. She clutches to Simon Snow's fandom after her mother leaves her, her father, and sister.  Cath has to learn who she without her twin Wren.  Cath is completely out of her comfort zone. She stays to herself, and she is even afraid to go the cafeteria alone.  If you want to find out if Cath finds herself, if she can make it without holding her sister's hand, and if she leaves Simon Snow behind, you should pick Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell!

Fiction for the College Student

May: Mental Health Awareness & YA Lit

There are not many days left in May now, but it is never to late to be aware. May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

 According to NAMI, the 2011 National College Health Assessment (NCHA), a survey of nearly 28,000 college students conducted by the American College Health Association, revealed 30% reported they "felt so depressed it was difficult to function" at least once in the last twelve months and 6.6% reported they "seriously considered suicide" one or more times during the past year. The survey also states that depression is one of the leading causes for poor performance in college students.

Do you have or know someone who has an eating disorder, depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD? A story with people facing the same problems can go a long way towards understanding and accepting a problem in a young person's life. Try one of these great titles at the library or share them with someone you know.
