It is Maudi Gras in New Orleans and Amanda is assisting the sixth grade class on an outing there. Her daughter, Ellie, and Ellie's best friend, Sarah, are excited about the trip. Sarah's mother, Beth, leaves her daughter in Amanda's care while she attends to church activities along with her husband, who is a preacher.
Amid the costumed carnival goers there is danger. Sarah suddenly disappears and efforts to find her are fruitless. Ellie is devastated and Amanda blames herself. Her husband is no help, also blaming Amanda. Years pass and tragedy strikes again! Finally her husband leaves her for another woman.
How much more can Amanda take? The sheriff, Jay, is a former friend from school and he, along with others, try to help her through the trials.
Will she survive? Will they ever find Sarah?
