E-Books

What is an e-book?  According to World Book Encyclopedia, “An e-book is an electronic book as well as a collection of digital (numerically encoded) files containing the text, and sometimes the illustrations of a book. E-books are viewed on a computer.” In most libraries, E-books are available for purchase on various websites of publishers and online bookstores. Desoto Learning Resource Center has a large collection of e-books available through EBSCO which is free to our students, faculty and staff.  Indeed, e-books can be used for research, pleasure reading, and to improve test taking skills as well as writing skills.  According some researchers, e-books have some advantages over traditional print books. They are user-friendly and easy access online from a computer, an e-reader, a smartphone, or a tablet any time of day or night. Also, dynamic citations are available in MLA and APA formats. They are lightweight and convenient for travel, as hundreds of e-books can be stored on a single device.  Swing by the library to check-out our EBSCO e-Book Collection containing more than 45,500 titles.
