It’s India in the 1980s. Kavita has just given birth to her
2nd daughter. The first one
was taken away from her and discarded like trash simply for not being a boy.
Now, Kavita is determined not to let this happen again. The only thing she can do is take her daughter
to an orphanage in Bombay and tell her family and the community that the baby
died.
It’s California in the 1980s. Somer has just found out that
she will never be able to have children. So, she and her husband decide to
travel to India to adopt a daughter
These two women are bound by their daughter, Asha. The Secret Daughter follows both women’s lives
and are “invisibly connected until Asha’s journey of self-discovery leads her
back to India”.
